Be in the Driver Seat of Your Healing With Brainspotting Therapy

Talk therapy can be beneficial if you suffer from anxiety, depression, trauma, or negative core beliefs.

But sometimes, it isn’t enough.

In many cases, you need to process your mental health struggles on a deeper level. And by deeper level, I mean physically deeper within the subcortical part of your brain where trauma is held.

That’s where brainspotting therapy comes in.

How Does Brainspotting Therapy Work?

Based on eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) principles, brainspotting finds and targets trauma held within the brain using eye movements. In other words, where you move your eyes and focus your gaze affects how you feel.

Brainspotting is a somatic approach to healing, which means we focus on your body as well as your mind.

In each of your brainspotting sessions, you decide what you’d like to focus on. You choose what you want to work on healing. Because this form of trauma therapy can be emotional and challenging, you are in control of how much and for how long you’d like to focus on your trauma or experience.

You are in control of your healing. As your brainspotting therapist, I’m only here to guide you.

What to Expect In a Brainspotting Therapy Session With Me

I understand how beginning a new therapy modality can create anxiety. Rest assured, any therapy session with me, whether as your brainspotting therapist, ecotherapist, HSP therapist, or as your source for parental support, I do my best to make your experience comfortable and welcoming.

I create a caring, nonjudgmental, safe space for you to process your emotions, traumas, and other mental health concerns.

Your Brainspotting Therapy Session

During your session, I will move a pointer along your eye line. As your eyes move, you’ll typically feel sensations somewhere within your body as we locate the brainspot together. You usually choose where to stop and sometimes people need my help locating the spot. I am always looking for facial reflexes that give us clues there could be something happening at that spot.

Once we have found the brainspot, you will mindfully process from a fixed eye position for the remainder of the session. We remain open and curious while you simply notice any thoughts, feelings, and sensations that may arise during your processing time.

Some individuals find it helpful to talk during their processing while others are silent.

While the brainspotting process can be difficult, it is incredibly healing.

When your session comes to an end, since this is a somatic experience involving both your mind and body, you often physically feel a sense of relief and calm as your body releases the trauma.

And once you release it, those feelings of anxiety and depression stemming from it - they’re gone.

It is truly spectacular.

Why Choose Brainspotting

Whether you are looking for trauma therapy in Oakland California and the surrounding San Francisco Bay area, need help navigating difficult emotions and challenging life experiences, or want guidance to change negative thinking patterns, brainspotting therapy can help.

Brainspotting is often used in conjunction with other therapy modalities.

I often use it together with:

  • Parts work: This is where you choose a part of yourself to focus on. Using parts work and brainspotting, we can work to find the brainspot responsible for that chosen part of you and explore it together.

  • Expansion brainspotting: If you would like to expand into something in your life, this type of therapy work helps focus on achieving performance goals such as painting three times a week and strengthening desired states of being like peace, joy, and creativity.
